PEKAES Chooses Qualcomm Satellite Fleet Management System
WARSAW - September, 2005 - Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe (QESE), the leader in mobile communications for the transportation industry, today announced PEKAES SA, one of the largest transportation companies in Poland, has signed a deal with Qualcomm for fleet management and near real-time satellite communications. The solutions to be used by PEKAES represent several Qualcomm systems, including its QTRACS® fleet management solution for vehicle positioning and information exchange between the company and the driver; SensorTRACS® performance monitoring solution, HourTRACS® and ViaWeb® Internet-based load tracking service. As a whole, Qualcomm solutions will assist PEKAES in reducing operating costs, optimizing fleet usage, improving customer service levels and increasing safety by tracking vehicle and driver behavior.The solutions will assist in the compliance of driver's working time with requirements set forth by the Agreement Concerning the Work of Crews of Vehicles Engaged in International Road Transport, as well as allow two-way communication between the driver and dispatch. PEKAES clients will also have the capability to track their shipments online.
Qualcomm has worldwide expertise and experience in advising large transportation companies and is one of the few international companies that can offer effective fleet management services in most European countries. PEKAES is an important carrier on Eastern European routes, where satellite communication is important because other wireless systems have poor coverage and high roaming rates.
The SensorTRACS system provides information to optimize fuel consumption and engine usage and connects directly to vehicle sensors and the onboard CAN-bus, providing a summary of engine uptime and the number of revolutions, kilometers, speed and idle time - making it possible to identify vehicle parameters that a driver may influence. The information is sent to the dispatch center at regular intervals specified by the client or on demand via the EutelTRACS® system, an established messaging and positioning service, operated in collaboration with Qualcomm, for the road-haulage industry in Europe.
The HourTRACS module is used to monitor the driver's working time by sending near real-time data on the driver's current activity and time (driving, working, resting and availability). This allows companies to monitor driving time and stay within working or driving time mandates. The module provides daily and weekly reports, eliminating the need for tachograph readings. The HourTRACS module also helps companies enhance the efficiency of their schedule planning and ensures compliance with drivers' working time regulations. All the information can be transferred directly into PEKAES back-office software.
The ViaWeb service uses the Internet to provide information on the current status and location of cargo/shipments, as well as emergencies.
